Turbo Ultra Woodscrews Double Self-Countersunk 6 x 100mm Pk100
Just the job
All in all a great value screw that wont rust, makes it great for exterior application, as long as you use the correct fitting bit to match the head you wont mangle the head of the screw, self countersinking and easy start with very little splitting without piloting

In my experience the only screw that doesn't rust in outside locations - ideal for fences, decking etc. The sharp point makes starting them off easy, and usually no countersinking is necessary. Well worth the extra money

Used to be good, now poorer
Screwfix's Turbo Ultra A2 stainless screws used to be amongst the best and great value for money. I've used them extensively for many years on all sorts of construction projects.
Sadly the most recent batch of SKU 10078 3.5x40mm supplied in June 2015 are made from a new alloy. Through extensive testing and wastage of approximately 1/2 of each box I have concluded that the new alloy is a mixture of tin foil and cheese. Care must be taken with all stainless screws when driving them to avoid cam out which damages them easily but these new improved versions are ridiculous. You can snap them in your fingers (wear gloves as they are sharp).
I bought some other sizes at the same time which were fortunately still made from actual metal, but the SKU mentioned above were all beyond useless.
You can tell the new alloy easily if you have two batches to compare as they are significantly lighter than the older ones and are of a dull finish. Visually and to the touch they resemble aluminium screws but they box still states A2 stainless steel. As they are not cheap, if you find yourself with a box that matches that then do yourself a favour and take them back for a refund before wasting your time and then having to do the same anyway.

Dissapointed with 5 x 70mm
Needed some screws for a picnic bench i was building. Even with a 3mm pilot the first 2 i used both sheared the heads off when i tried to take them out which was a nightmare as it left the thredded part in both parts of the timber i was screwing together!!
