Titan TTB427GTM 45cm 400W Extendable Pole Electric Hedge Trimmer 230V
Yes it is heavy
Can't assess reliability after only one usage so have assumed it is 'good 3 stars'.
There is no getting away from it - because the motor is mounted next to the cutter which is at the business end of the pole this is heavy in use. The weight is much greater in use than the 3.1kg stated weight would suggest. The manual says it weighs 4kg. This is not so bad if you are using the cutter to cut a tall hedge and you can stand next to the hedge and directly beneath the cutter. But, if like me you have to stretch over a sloping shrub-covered flower bed in order to reach the hedge it becomes tiring quite quickly. My shoulders still ache 2 days later.
I can't see this cutting a 16mm branch - perhaps elderberry but not hawthorn. Great for new-growth thin stuff though.
I used this cutter for 30 mins or so and thought it a bit noisy so put some thin oil on it and that made it easier. Why isn't it well lubricated when delivered?
The instruction manual goes on and on about the harness - it just got in the way. The manual, like so many, is written by somebody who knows how the product should work. It has not been tried out on a first time user to see if it makes sense. The drawings are too small, and often you only get one when a second drawing to show the other angle would actually really be good for health and safety. It says the adjustment for the shoulder strap is only to adjust the strap not the cutting reach, but as it makes the pole physically shorter/longer of course it adjusts the cutting reach. Maybe if I worked out how the harness is supposed to fit it would reduce the weight problem.
And you need long arms to operate the trigger and get a good balanced grip up the pole with the other hand. I'm 6'7" - it's a stretch.
The adjustment in pole length is only a few inches and needs an Allen key so there is little point in adjusting it.
Changing the angle of the cutter blade is dead easy, and is an essential feature.
But having grumbled away this is a low cost way to reach high up, and I don't want to pay £100+ for a petrol cutter I would use only a few hours each year.
It saves time, and is probably safer than using steps especially if you have to cut over 50 feet of hedge with a slope next to it.
Screwfix service 100% excellent - ordered Sunday delivered Monday morning.

Very pleased with this item.My hedge is 40ft long by 8ft high 5ft deep and this trimmer coped very well with this task.Cutting the top of the hedge level was easy I extended it to full height and walked slowly down the length of the hedge both sides and then withe the aid of steps cut the remaining centre section to the same height.
