Rated 5 out of 5 by from fast application and drying I used this to preserve approx 23 sqm of planed shiplap (area calculated from the individual lengths - qty 80 * 2.4m * 0.119m -, before fitting) and was impressed by the speed of drying and ability to recoat (approx 90mins after the first coat). The next day you could feel the dry 'waxy' coating. A week later I've painted over with cuprinol wood shades with no problem. Coverage - I used a basic Earlex HVLP sprayer and used approx 7.5litres to cover the 23 Sq m with two coats. Using a brush would probably give greater coverage but the earlex was really quick, no dilution needed and the coating was thick and soaked in quickly. Cleaning the earlex was easy as the preservative is water based. So practically (assuming 2 coats) about 3.3 sq m per litre. I'll definitely use again

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Hard to say how good a preserve will be unless I wait years. I ordered 2 of these and soaked the external 10x8 shed I had built. no smell and like water soaked in well and the wood kept soaking it up. coated with Ducks back paint after. time will tell if it was worth it.

Can it be used instead of paint?

looking for a product that protects my fences and shed without changing the colour. I don't want it to be a different colour to the natural stain on the decking so want to stay away from paint etc. Will this do the job or is painting the only option?
Asked by: Kris112
When using Sika Wood Preserver externally, it must be over-coated with a paint, varnish etc. and cannot be left as a final surface.

Can I use oil after this product?

Can I use Liberon decking oil after applying this product on my new deck?
Asked by: oohaar
Sikagard Wood Preserver must be over-coated when used externally with paint, stain or varnish. Please contact Liberon regarding the suitability of their product to over-coat our product, which soaks into the wood.

Painting

Can this be over painted with Zinsser Bulls Eye 123 Plus - Primer Sealer and Stain Killer followed by Sadolin Superdec Satin Opaque. I am replacing Shiplap boarding on a clad wooden studio that is to be painted white.
Asked by: Bazzamjb
This product is an ideal pre-treatment which may be over painted, varnished, or stained when dry. However we have not conducted specific tests with the products you intend over-coating it with. You should contact the manufacturers of these products to ensure that they are suitable to be applied over the wood preserver.

How many coats is required if using on pre-treated featherboard fence panels

We have cleared a fence of dense ivy and pressure washed all the debris off. Thought it would be good to give it a top up coat of preservative. Would a pressure treated fence need a top up and if so how may coats of this product would be required?
Asked by: PeteMr
When used externally, Sikagard Wood Preserver must be over-coated with a paint, stain, varnish etc. and can not be left as the final coat. This product can be used on pressure treated wood as long as the Wood Preserver can penetrate into the wood. Normally 2 to 3 coats would be applied.
