Can this pump increase the water pressure to a shower , basin toilet (which is not off the mains ) The cold water tank is located in the airing cupboard above the h/w cylinder

Can the pump be wired off on a spur from the cylinder switch
Asked by: mikeppp
The Showermate eco is specified for use with a single shower only. To boost the whole bathroom opt for the Showermate Standard S1.8 bar Twin. This also assumes that there is already an 'un-pumped' flow out of the shower head of at least 1 litre per minute due to the gravity flow from the tank alone. The 'Standard' Showermate senses this flow and switches on automatically when the shower or one of the other appliances is turned on. If flow from the tank, through the shower, is less than 1 litre per minute, you should opt for a Showermate Universal U1.8 bar Twin. A 'Universal' (sometimes called 'Negative Head') pump does not require a flow due to gravity to switch on. Rather, it senses the pressure drop which occurs when the shower is switched on. Although a little more expensive due to their extra complexity, Universal pumps are a safe bet, especially if its a new shower installation and the amount of flow restriction caused by the proposed shower head is not known. To avoid electrical spikes generated by the cylinder switching disrupting the pump operation, we would always recommend a dedicated fused spur from the ring main.

Does this pump have to be gravity fed? it is just below the tank on the floor of a ground floor property, or would this punp be unsuitable?

Asked by: oredone
Good morning! Essentially yes, a 'standard' pump requires a flow of water from your shower head due to gravity alone of at least 1 litre per minute in order for it to activate. If the shower head is above the height of the water tank, it almost certain that a 'Standard' pump will not work. In this case a 'Universal' type pump should be used instead.

is the 1.5 bar a suitable replacement for an old pump rated at 1.3 bar

Asked by: stonert
Hello! Essentially, yes! The 1.5 bar pump will deliver slightly higher performance than the 1.3 bar pump, but the difference will not be significant.

Would this be a suitable replacement for the Watermill pump Model-Wasp66

Asked by: Feet59
Hi Feet59, Although the Showermate Eco 1.5bar pump you mentioned should work, the Wasp66 is a more powerful 2.0bar pump. A more equivalent performance alternative would be the Showermate Eco S 2.0 bar, part no 60928.

Is the pump automatic when the shower is turned on or does it run constantly

Asked by: mrg01
Hello mrg01, This pump switches on automatically when the shower is turned on and runs until the shower is switched off again. Being a "S" or "Positive Head" pump, it uses a flow switch to activate it which relies on a flow due to gravity of at least 0.8 litres per minute to activate it. Simply put, without the pump fitted there should be a flow of at least 0.8 litres per minute out of the shower head when it is switched on. If a flow due to gravity of at least 0.8 litres per minute is not available from the shower head, this would be considered a "negative head" installation and a "Universal" pump should be used. A Universal (sometime called a negative head pump) does not rely on a minimum flow to activate, instead it uses a pressure sensor to sense when the shower has been turned on.
