Scheppach 8 inch grinder
Purchased this grinder after looking at many others as I wanted a wide white wheel grinder.
Powerfull 550 watts in, actual power out not stated
Seemed well made with light and wheel dresser
Good width wheels
Not so good
Large amount of wheel wobble (side to side) on delivery
Tool rests not sdjustable for angle.
Wheel wobble was traced to poor machining of shaft shoulders and stone clamp setup. After removing shaft shoulder runout and setting up wheel clamps with a dial gauge wobble reduced to about 4 thou which was acceptable. The white wheel still had radial wobble but this was caused by slight uneven manufacture (Think car wheel balance)
So basically a decent machine if you are prepared to spend time sorting it out if necessary and you may need an adjustable rest.

Needed a decent grinder for keeping my lathe chisels and other tools in the workshop well maintained and sharp and I'm extremely happy with how this one is performing so far. It's big, powerful, quiet and doesn't vibrate too much (I think with a bit of careful adjustment I can reduce vibrations even further but it's really fine as is). The light and water tray are useful additions - also it doesn't seem to be mentioned in the description but this grinder comes with a dressing tool which snaps into a storage position on top - a nice unexpected bonus. Instructions could be a bit clearer but to be honest the only time I got stuck I just looked at the picture on the front of the manual and figured out what was what and where it was supposed to be mounted. Happy customer.

Only received today so how can I assess it's reliability ? Having said that feels like a solid piece of kit. Instructions leave a lot to be desired - e.g. what is the water tray for ?
One disappointment was one of the holes to mount the eye shield was drilled to the wrong size so I had to find a suitable smaller bolt which felt like a bit of a bodge on an otherwise quality piece of equipment.

A nice sturdy machine with some good features, i.e grooved and angled "rest" for drill sharpening . built in water trough. Well worth the money

At 2850 RPM what stops the water tray from overflowing?
Hi The water tray is there simply to dip the hot tool edge into to cool it , the grindstones do not run in it .
