This Flexible Cable is suitable for wiring up to a UK Mains Plug; but please note that this 1.0mm2 product is rated to only 10 amps. Therefore we would advise the fuse in the plug was changed to a lower rating. The main issue is what is on the other end of the cable and if lower than 10 amps then this cable is the correct one; but you may need a high specification cable such as 1.5mm2 (Screwfix Code 83440) which has a 16 amp rating.
The key difference between Twin and Earth and Flexible Cable is the outer sheath (PVC). Twin and Earth is known as non-flexible cable and is used installations where is will not need to move after installation. Flexible cable, as per the name, flexes more easily and is therefore more suited to being wired to a UK plug. Due to this flexibility the 3183Y product is also easier to connect to the plug.
In terms of conductivity both products carry similar properties and 2.5mm2 3183Y flexible cable is very similar to 2.5mm2 Twin & Earth. Both these products have a much higher Amp rating than the 1.0mm2 Flexible Cable. Both 3183Y and Twin & Earth contain 3 cores consisting of a Live Wire, Neutral Wire and Earth Wire.
