Rated 5 out of 5Â by Bezalel Both excellent tools
Perfect for any kind of difficult digging in hard or rocky ground.
Ideal for removing rotten stumps and putting in fence posts.
Great steel, strong but easy to sharpen with a good metal file.
The tools can easily be taken apart for cleaning or storage, just hold them by the handle with the head facing down (but off the ground) and give them a smart tap on the thin end of the handle with a mallet or club hammer.
Then simply slide the head up the handle.
All in all a great tool set, highly recommended.

absolutely terrible quality. "Tough tools for a tough world" - yeah, right.
Probably okay for DIY use and mild gardening, but I had to dig out a 10m3 pond from hardcore for a client; within the first swing, the blade of the mattock had chipped badly from a small stone, and the pick handle gave way 3/4 of the way through.

I purchased the set at the mattock was out of stock, but am glad I did as I live on an old builders yard and needed to remove some large objects from the ground, including a short concrete railway sleeper!!
The mattock was good for most of the work but the pick was also needed to get under the larger objects that the mattock could not get under and lever them out.
I have also used the mattock for removing roots on a steep bank, for cutting rough steps down the slope and for cutting a work path across the slope.
All in all a excellent pair of tools that compliment each other.
