Record Power RSBG8 203mm Bench Grinder 230V
Dissapointed in Record quality
My old grinder of 30 years died so I bought this Record RSBG 8.
Bitterly dissapointed with the build quality of this grinder. Just to put the decsription of it straight; It is not cast iron construction, the end caps of the motor are thin die cast alloy, I know this because one of the lugs cracked when I bolted it down (not under the guarantee). The centre plate of the motor is thin plate steel, in my case it looks like it has been painted by a 6 year old with a stick, given the country of origin it probably was.
It is an abuse of the English language to call the adjustable tool rest adjustable, it only moves backwards and forwards about 12mm it cannot be tilted or set at any angle, it needs major surgery to enable it to be FULLY adjustable.
Okay it's only a grinder but all of the above are indicative of the lack of care gone into the build of this grinder,
Again in my case the wheel guard was bent and pressing against the grind wheel, I had to dimantle the guards and bend them back into shape before I could use it.
After all of that it works alright but is'nt that what it is supposed to do.......
Maybe I've just got a bad one, I'm hoping that all of the money has gone into the grind wheels, time will tell.

A Beast of a grinder
Bought this bench grinder as I have started woodturning, and this has very good reviews from experienced turners. Bought this on sunday night off Screwfix web site and it was delivered from their supplier Tues morn. Screwfix was the cheapest I could find it on the web and the speed of delivery was excellent. I have only rated performance and reliability 4 stars but I forsee no issues and it comes with a five year guarantee.
