I normally use the red plugs and small screws, but have a painting I want to hang which weighes 6-7 pounds, so thought I might need something bigger. Would this be better? It's an old wall in a cottage and I don't want to make a bigger hole in it than necessary! I suspect when my drill bites into it, it won't just make a clean, straight hole as in a modern wall.

Answer:
Hi,

The red plugs would be fine to take the weight of your painting, however the larger brown ones would certainly be better.
