Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to strip This cable may be a little more expensive than the unbranded cable, but saves effort on site by being far easier to work with as it is more pliable and very easy to strip.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Duff Batch? Going to take this up with manufacturer as I am used to T&E that strips nicely. This reel I have just used is just awful. Whether its lack of talc or other lubricant I cannot say but its positively dangerous when it stretches the inner sheaths so much that they almost break as well, let alone thin out. I know its not my stripper(s) as my other cables work fine. I would have loved to take it back but need to get the job done so its a case of "Hobson's Choice"!

Is this suitable to run 60 meters to power 2 security lights?

Asked by: Nigel288
This cable is not armoured (intrinsic mechanically protected) and is not suitable for burial or in a place where it can be accessed. Externally it will also be affected by UV in sunlight. This is on top of the considerations you must make regarding design current, fusing and voltage drop on the cable in this circuit. If in doubt consult a qualified person. The data sheet you can find on the Prysmian web site.

What is the maximum temperature (environment) where you can install this cable ex sheed, loft space?

Asked by: Florinel
The cable can operate up to 70 degrees C. At ambient temperatures above 30 degrees C the cable will need to be de-rated. i.e. it will carry a reduced current. Please see wiring regulation or suitable texts for the de-rating factors.

Would this cable be sufficient for an electric shower if run straight from the rcd with its own trip?

Asked by: Tonin
2.5sqmm is not rated for an electric shower Max 27Amps (clipped direct) at 230V = 6.2kW. Most showers are 8kW or higher. Regards Peter Fox Prysmian Cables

Why do the specs give 18.5A rating rather than 27A?

At the end of the specifications you state 18.5A rating. For 6241Y shouldn't that be 27A clipped direct and 20A through a conduit in an insulated wall?
Asked by: opentrail
I fully agree with you. The ratings are as you state. There is no 18.5 amp rating in the wiring regulations. The screwfix data is incorrect.

6242Y vs 6242YH

What is the difference between 6242Y and 6242YH version of this cable? I know the 'H' means harmonised core colours but both versions seem to have the same core colours so what's the difference?
Asked by: Manchester1
Actually there is no difference. They are all cables with 'harmonised colours' on the screw fix site. For some reason 'H' has been put into the descriptions of two of them. For your information going forward the cables themselves will be marked 'H' on the sheath where applicable .
