Shut-off point very narrow
Fitted one of these instead of a cheapie somewhere where replacement would be a pain
I was rather surprised to find the shut-off point is not only very narrow but also slightly offset, meaning you can't just turn the valve so the slot is roughly at right-angles to the valve and have to do it by ear with water flowing through it.
This is on low pressure and yes, it is fitted the right way round.

I stopped fitting vanilla cheap isolating valves years ago after finding too many that leak as soon as you touch them (generally ones fitted in the hardest places to replace!). These are pretty good: a bit more expensive but worth it for the reliability.
And the spanner-friendly hexagonal body makes fitting easier.

Hope this is better
Previous service valve leaked when I turned it off for a tap repair. On inspection, the old one (from Screwfix) was seriously pitted and corroded on the ball of the valve. This time I bought the higher priced Yorkshire brand, so I hope it is made of more water friendly metal. Time will tell Don't know how to score the star ratings. Based upon the old fitting, it should get no stars at all. Lets hope this turns out to be a five star purchase.

I'm not a plumber...
...but this worked for me! Nice tight fit and easy to keep straight while tightening.
