Rated 5 out of 5 by from The "turn-to" varnish I always use this for finishing oak doors and other joinery. Quick-drying, odour free, reliable, easy to apply and clean up. For this quality, the price is excellent too. What more do you need? Well - the option of bigger cans would be very useful.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK If you have the time I admit I didn't make the connection between "quick drying" and water based. The description doesn't mention this. So I was a bit surprised to open the can and find something white looking. Tried it on a small area of the intended target and as it was difficult to see any varnish I switched to polyurethane and finished it that way. I prefer paints and paint strippers to smell awful and rot your brains, but on another job I tried this product and found it works. It does take at least three coats to build up any kind of finish. More vanish than varnish at the early stages. Quick drying but multiple coats required. Plus points - good if you want a natural "unvarnished" looking finish and brushes are easy to clean.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from As good as the branded version I've used this on two Oak faced doors - applied with a 4" sponge roller, took hardly any time and although when first applied you get a fine orange peel finish, it levels out to a perfectly flat satin finish. 3 thin coats give an appearance as good as a factory applied finish. 750ml was just about enough to put 3 coats on two sides of two doors

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good coverage! Opened tin and the product is the colour of condensed milk! Covers well and dries super quick. Time will tell about durability.

Is this a water-based polyurethane?

I'd like to use this product to give added protection to laminated furniture that has been painted with chalk paint.

I am renovating some old Bedroom Furniture, I have used an all purpose primer then plan to use satinwood Eggshell as the top coat. Will this varnish protect against everyday use - especially on a dressing table. If not can you recommend something else.

Asked by: dw1212
Hello dw1212, Yes, this varnish should be fine as a protective finishing coat on a dressing table. Thanks for using Q&A, KC.

Hello, Can this be used over wood stain?

Asked by: dizzy046
Hello Dizzy046, This varnish could be used over a wood stain however it may slightly effect the finish of the stain and the area would need to be properly prepared. We would advise testing this on an inconspicuous area of the wood to see if it obtains the desired finish. Thank you for using Q&A.
