Rated 4 out of 5 by Great value heavy duty mowing I have been using a Hayter Harrier 41 push mower that I bought 27 years ago and is still running, having had just one service (OK I change the oil, spark plug and blade but that's it#! It was starting to get hard to start and I wanted a self propelled mower so I set about my research and thought this Mountfield looked great value and was well reviewed. It is well-built, has a Honda engine that started first pull, has one touch height adjustment and even has a mulching plug included. I looked at lots of models but figured I would need to pay over twice as much as this to get my wish list of desirable features and thought 'was it worth it?'. I looked at some others in a few garden stores and actually wasn't that impressed with build quality so I bought this. Although a steel deck, it is of quite a thick gauge and doesn't have too many places for much to gather and harbour rust. I was pleasantly surprised at its build quality when I assembled it #not much to do!#. Annoyingly, most lawnmowers have a dead mans handle and you effectively have to re-start it every time you empty the bag #probably EU nonsense# but it was easy enough to re-start. I found it goes at a reasonable pace and has enough power to go up the hills in my garden. It sure picked up a lot of grass and other detritus!. Is it for you? Yes if you have quite a large lawn #this is a beast as someone else said# and not too many fiddly edges because it's not that easy to manoeuvre. It is a simple, well-built large mower and I can see it giving lots of service. Buy a smaller mower of you don't really need the size and/or if you have an irregular shaped lawn. It doesn't stripe the lawn and isn't quite as refined as a roller mower. The mulching function seemed pretty useless so don't buy it if you are expecting to make use of that function. At Screwfix' price, it is great value and the service at Sevenoaks was great. 25 Mar 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Well engineered This mower is well constructed and I can see we should get good service from it. If you only have a small lawn then this is not the mower for you as it is not very manoeuvrable. Still the wide cut is idea for the larger areas. Paying this much though I would have thought providing a 0.55l bottle of oil for it would have been appropriate. Be very careful when putting the oil in as it is not very easy to see the level on the stick. Assembly is easy enough, but the instructions are pretty dire. 28 Apr 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Mount field SP533 Very good lawnmower. Easily assembled. Started first time. Good clean cut of grass. 14 Apr 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Mountfield SP533 Great mower. Have used it for the whole summer with no problems. Getting the oil level spot on took a little time. Starts first time every time. Grass cut and collection very good. Struggles with long grass as the rear flap doesn't open far enough to let the clippings out, but this was cured by putting a narrow bore bamboo can across the hinges to hold the flap open and increase the flap clearance. Collecting the grass seems to have limited mole activity which is a blessing and the grass looks really good just after a cut. The area mown is part lawn part orchard, none of it being particularly level but this mower makes a good job of it. 5 Jan 2015
