I have bought the smaller version of this in the past for chasing in lead flashing, what a dream that tool was and this longer version is equally as good. Yes you do have to take your time but the rake does clean out the joints without lots of hammering.

Been wanting to try one of these for a while. Sadly wasted my money.
Worked fine clearing out a metre of recent mortar. However, tried it on a 1960's airbrick - got halfway round with difficulty and then it snapped.

Worked very well to start and removed the mortar exceptionally quick. Unfortunately at £18 it did not last long. I managed to rake out approx 20-25 joints to tie some new brickwork in to an opening that was being blocked up and didn't quite get to finish due to the carbide bits wearing out so quickly. I think this may have been more due to when it touches the bricks in the joint and rips the carbide bits from the stem. To be fair it made the job very quick taking about 15-20 mins to complete the joints I did, but for the price it is very expensive and would have needed two to complete the job which in real terms was very small.

Bought this to rake out some lime mortar, did a good job and much easier and safer than a grinding disc! And also doesn't damage face of bricks if you do have an inevitable slip! Does wear out fairly quick (have used three on one side of a house) so not the cheapest way to do it but certainly quick!
