Rated 4 out of 5 by A great value plastic hatch Bought as a replacement for a hatch that was quite old, it took longer to remove the surround of the old hatch than fit this new one. There's a good bit of polystyrene insulation on the lid and it slide locks to ensure a good seal. its nice that it has a good size surround as it hides the edges of the ceiling plaster. Installation tip: Don't over tighten the screws as it may cause the hatch not to slide shut or get stuck. 22 Jul 2016
Rated 1 out of 5 by GL250 loft hatch My first GL250 was installed by my builder. Instructions and warning notices had been removed. The hatch lid fell off 3 times damaging the wood floor below and damaging the hatch lid itself. The hatch lid is designed such that it can be removed completely from the frame. If the warning signs had been left then the damages may have been avoided, however the ease at which the lid can detach from the frame unintentionally is an accident waiting to happen. I wanted to replace it with another manufacturers hatch, but I could not match the dimensions of the GL250. I had then no choice but to buy another GL250! The warning signs on the second hatch explained why the damages had occurred. 1) If the hatch is allowed to swing down uncontrolled it may become detached from the frame. 2) If a ladder is lent against the opened lid then the lid may become detached. I installed a telescopic ladder and the spring mechanism pressed against the opened lid and knocked it off. To avoid the lid from falling again I made two modifications. 1) reinstalled the telescopic ladder with a 2" spacer so it did not touch the lid. 2) fitted a door stop to prevent the lid swinging past the vertical which it is required to do for removal. 18 Jul 2016

Answer:
The ManThorpe website fitting size is correct at 562mm x 726mm. Screwfix for some reason lists the most extreme dimensions of the product 686mm x 856mm (what you see from your landing as the overall dimensions of the plastic frame).

The opening size is a lot smaller than the frame size. I think they could have made the frame slimmer.

Answer:
There are lugs in the door which engage with the frame. When the door is shut you slide it along and the lugs in the door engage in the frame forming a seal. I stand on steps to open the door as it needs to be supported when opening.

my current loft hatch is smaller than standard. Although the cover for this product would fit over the hole, as the hole is smaller than the insulated section the door wouldn't be able to close. If the insulated part can be removed, then I imagine the door opening section would close without any issue.

Answer:
Hello. This hatch is insulated with standard polystyrene. The type you get in packaging. I just sawed the bulk of mine off then scraped the remaining with a paint scraper. Took about a minute in total.
