Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Hatch Bought this to replace an old hatch left in poor condition from the previous owners. The sizing of the frame was slightly short on the length but solved with extending the joist with additional timber. Looks wise very crisp and clean in brilliant white. Having just fit it, I have still got to decide whether I like the sliding catch mechanism instead of the rotating catch I previously had. 26 Jan 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Manthorpe insltd loft hatch Replacing the old loft door with this one has made so much difference to the comfort of my house I wish I'd done sooner. It wasn’t straightforward though as I had to enlarge the opening in the ceiling and turn the ladder through 90 degrees. When I cut out the existing trimmer joist the ceiling dropped by about 10mm between the two supporting joists. I had replaced the 25 gallon tank with a 50 gallon tank a couple of years ago and the board under the tank was now on these joists too. I partially drained the tank and used a 3”x3” fence post to prop up the ceiling and make sure it was flat to accept the door frame. I fitted a new trimmer joist and as the ceiling was lathe and plaster I used Evo Stik Evo Grip to secure it to the trimmer. I had to trim the opening to get the correct size for the frame. When that was complete fitting the frame was simple. The last thing I had to do was re-fit the loft ladder and fit the door, no problem at all. There were two small gaps between the ceiling and the frame that I had to fill with Polyfilla then it was job done. 23 Jan 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent This does exactly what it should do, easy and quick to fit single handed. 5 Jan 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Not bad, but check measurement Well it's certainly a reasonable price at Screwfix, cheaper than I found online or other DIY stores but it does feel a bit like packaging material in parts. The main problem I had was the measurements. I was very tight for space and followed the product plans meticulously, leaving the required 100mm all round the cavity, which left me almost no space at all. So when it came to the sliding mechanism to open and close the door, the 100mm was not enough; I hit the wall and couldn't engage the latching. After considerable thought I sawed off 25mm of the catches, where they overlap to engage and hey presto, it worked. But I shouldn't have needed to do that. So be careful with this one... 12 Dec 2015

Answer:
There are lugs in the door which engage with the frame. When the door is shut you slide it along and the lugs in the door engage in the frame forming a seal. I stand on steps to open the door as it needs to be supported when opening.

my current loft hatch is smaller than standard. Although the cover for this product would fit over the hole, as the hole is smaller than the insulated section the door wouldn't be able to close. If the insulated part can be removed, then I imagine the door opening section would close without any issue.

Hello. This hatch is insulated with standard polystyrene. The type you get in packaging. I just sawed the bulk of mine off then scraped the remaining with a paint scraper. Took about a minute in total.

Answer:
There is no key. The latch is operated by inserting your thumb into the depression in the door and sliding it along. I stand on steps and do it by hand as you need to prevent the door from falling.
