Rated 4 out of 5 by Loft hatch The hatch is as described. Once you the correctly sized opening it is easy to fit. Does what it says on the tin 23 Apr 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Good Hatch Purchased this product to replace a yellowing sagging drafty hatch. I had to enlarge the existing opening to accommodate this new hatch but it was well worth it. The hatch is thin and locks into place with no chance of drafts. This was fitted to an artexed ceiling and the seals still made good all round contact. 18 Apr 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Lofthatch Bought this to replace a drafty loft hatch. Design has changed so check measurements on manufacturers website as the loft hatch slides out away from hinges to open it, thus meaning I needed more space than I expected. Fortunately I had 2mm to spare. As a very amateur diy'er this was easy to fit just had to have the confidence to do it. I am installing a second one this weekend I was so impressed. 2 Mar 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Loft Hatch Very easy to fit and creates a tight seal between ceiling and hatch. I'm not so sure it will hold up to any rough handling though as the plastic construction seems a little flimsy and easily breakable. Overall satisfied for the price. 28 Feb 2016

Answer:
There are lugs in the door which engage with the frame. When the door is shut you slide it along and the lugs in the door engage in the frame forming a seal. I stand on steps to open the door as it needs to be supported when opening.

my current loft hatch is smaller than standard. Although the cover for this product would fit over the hole, as the hole is smaller than the insulated section the door wouldn't be able to close. If the insulated part can be removed, then I imagine the door opening section would close without any issue.

Hello. This hatch is insulated with standard polystyrene. The type you get in packaging. I just sawed the bulk of mine off then scraped the remaining with a paint scraper. Took about a minute in total.

If it is a key, can this be used from standing on a landing or do you require a stool /chair?

How long is the key?

Answer:
There is no key. The latch is operated by inserting your thumb into the depression in the door and sliding it along. I stand on steps and do it by hand as you need to prevent the door from falling.
