Makita HS300DWE 85mm 1.3Ah Li-Ion Cordless Circular Saw 10.8V
A sad day for me. All my power tools are Makita
so I bought this based on my experiences with them.
Oh dear! You get 2 batteries and a charger too but I managed to cut about 1 meter of decking (25mm thick) on one battery and about the same on the other battery.
Fortunately I have another battery charge and 3 other batteries and I still couldnât do the job!
My saw may have been faulty as it seem to spin quiet slowly even with a fully charged battery.
It went back!
Even the guys in Screwfix agreed the blade just didnât spin as fast as they thought it should.
They offered me another one but I declined and went and bought a mains one.
A sad day. This tool needs to be 18v at least.
A real shame because I wanted a cordless one for the van.

I bought this so that I can buy large boards at a good price and then cut them down in the car park so they go in the car.
For that job it is perfect. It's small and light -duty enough to use anywhere, but seems very capable of munching cleanly through a bit of MDF or ply (if you take it slowly).
Now I find I like to be sure the batteries are always charged because I pick it up for lots of little cuts here and there (where I would have used a jigsaw) and get neat accurate cuts.
It's very easy to get good results, and has other functions I've not tried yet (bevel cuts & and depth adjustment).

I bought this for a specific task .. cutting a longish and accurate chunk out of the planking of a wooden boat to minimise preparation of the old plank edges when I scarf in the new piece.
The saw did a superb job, cutting to its full depth in one pass, along the grain of pitch-pine.
The kerf is very fine, probably a millimetre, so very precice but plenty wide enough to get a Japanese saw in to finish,
I have to say I was amazed at just how well the tool went through this wood.
I'm also certain that I will use it in many places where I might previously has sawn by hard, rather than mess about getting out and setting up a conventional circular saw.
I haven't had it long, so the rating for reliability is unknown, but I had to answer something. Makita have a good reputation.

I was seriously worried by the size of this when it arrived as I had a whole lot of 22m caberboard flooring to install prior to the electric being connected.
I needn't have worried as it coped pretty well so long as there was juice in the batteries. They don't last long but between the two of them I managed to cut and lay about 12 boards.
I would normally use the bigger electric saw but without electricity, this coped, just. 22mm flooring is about the limit this will tackle. It would be happier with thinner material like ply.
This is a useful tool to have as a stand by and also for smaller more intricate work. A bit pricey.
