Hello stefdawson,
You can use Makita 18V batteries on this multi-tool. It is the voltage that is important when choosing a battery to make sure the battery voltage matches the tool.
The battery capacity you require 3.0Ah, 4.0Ah or 5.0Ah will depend on your task. The battery capacity is an indicator of how long the battery should last before it requires recharging. For example a 4.0Ah should last longer than a 3.0Ah and 5.0Ah longer than a 4.0Ah in the same application. larger battery capacities are normally required for heavier duty tasks such as grinding.
