Rated 5 out of 5 by Brilliant I abuse this drill at times and its still going as good as it was new its brilliant 4 Mar 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great bit of kit! I've had my Makita LXT 18v Impact Driver for well over a year now and there's no way I could live without it! I use it for almost every job whether it involves using a screw, bolt or nut. Not just on site but when I'm working on cars aswell! It's shorter than a drill/driver so can get into those tight spaces which is really handy. I genuinely don't think I could manage not having an LED work light on my tool anymore after being used to this! The belt clip makes it ideal for working in awkward places or putting plasterboard ceilings up. I use the 3ahr batteries and they're perfect for what I need, lasting a long time and only 22 min charge time from flat (that soon flies by). This tool really does feel strong, sturdy and good in the hand. I wish I had bought one sooner. I've even just invested in the 1/2" drive one just for working on the cars and vans. Another great Makita product!!! P.S. I generally use the longer dewalt standard pz2 bits for the impact driver and they're pretty good, I did buy and try the special impact buts but they were rubbish, they all snapped nearly straight away! P.P.S I nearly forgot to mention how good this tool is for removing screws, even if they're covered in paint that's been there forever. It just wips them straight out. 26 Dec 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Packs a Punch Very powerful piece of kit. Not had it long enough to judge the reliability but knowing Makita, it shouldn't be a problem. Very happy with this purchase. 15 Jun 2015

Answer:
Hello Bluenick,
Yes this bare unit Makita DTD146Z 18V Impact Driver will accept the BL1840 battery. The 18 signifies 18V and the 40 signifies 4.0Ah. The important thing to remember when wanting to know if a battery is compatible with a cordless tool of the same brand is whether they have the same voltage. In this case the impact driver and the battery are both 18V and the connection also matches. The Ah rating is the capacity of the battery and indicates how long it should last before it requires charging.

Answer:
This unit is part of the Makita LXT range of products, this means that it is only compatable with the Makita LXT batteries, the BL1813G battery will not fit to any Makita LXT products.
