I question the logic of replaceing good quality metal draught sealed internal and external letter plates with a plastic one which is less likley to stand up to rough treatment. However I am a landlord and the Fire survey called for replacement with an intrumesent letterbox assembly. The new letterbox looked like a standard sleeved letterbox with two layers of intrumesent tape wrapped around it so the price looked high for what it was. This meant that the lip overlaping the door was quiet small and needed an accurate hole in the door. Of course the original hole was a bit rough and too small so I had to enlarge it. Fortunatly I had one of those little multi saws which I nearly did not buy because I did not think I would use it much, but has turned out to be a great buy. I managed to cut the hole without damaging the surounding faces of the door and save myself having to touch up the paint work, which would have been another visit as I do not carry a range of gloss paint colours about with me.
In all it got the job done in one visit and looked good. A heavy duty letterbox would have proberbly cost a fortune.
