Soft-Close Ball Bearing Drawer Runners 500mm
Average at best
I got a set of these to try out, luckily I didn't get enough to fit out the whole kitchen at once.
Installation was fairly straightforward, with plenty of mounting holes to get fixings in, obviously much care needs to be taken to get them dead level and parallel.
It wasn't until I got them in that I realised that one of the soft close spring mechanisms wasn't actuating properly. With only the return power of one slide working, it would leave the drawer sticking out 1/4".
So I had it all apart again, entirely disassembled the problem slide, bearings everywhere, etc. Eventually diagnosed the problem being that the cheap pressed steel catch wasn't retaining the spring release properly. A small tweak with the pliers sorted it out, I even managed to get it all back together again without any bits left over. After a small re-lubrication it was working exactly like the other side.
The first time around I thought the pulling force required to open the drawer and cock the mechanism was a bit stiff, but now with both of them working, it was downright hard! I got out my luggage scales to measure the force required to open the empty drawer, and it was over 4kg! Don't get me wrong, it slides home like a dream, but I don't want to feel like I'm hefting a sack of flour each time I want to get a teaspoon.
