This is one of those products that cannot be rated for `fit for purpose` untill you have had a major house fire! Having said that I have no reason to suspect they would not work.
These are retro fit products and can be fitted easily if you can fit from above ie. in the loft, although the fixing clips can be a bit fiddly! I have not tried to fit from below the ceiling.
These products are very expensive compared to some new dowlights that I have had fitted. IP 65 fire rated, zone 1 shower lights, complete units at just over half the price of these covers!!
Rated 2 out of 5Â by DIYsurvival Flimsy to work with
Probably does the job if there is a fire but this fire hood is a pain to install. The metal frame pieces are very flimsy and can be difficult to get into place. Its a minuscule metal tip that is supposed to grap out the outside of ceiling board,
Its expensive for what it is and I am sure there are better products around.

These are 150mm tall as well as square. The two metal side supports mean that it won't fit a ceiling cavity less than 150mm (at least without bodging). They are also a real pain to work with if you have a small cutout (eg 70mm or less) and no access from above.
I wish Screwfix stocked the Envirograf hoods as these seem to me to be a better product (and cheaper too).
