Forge Steel Spreader Clamp 305mm (12")
What's the problem?
I couldn't resist buying some of these at a great offer price, even though the reviews I have read are not too hot.
I can honestly say that I don't know what all of the negative feedback is about on previous reviews? For the money, and even at full retail price, they are excellent. If you want bomb proof then you should be paying treble this price!
They have been very effective in clamping 2x2 timber and large plywood sheets during the manufacture of two sheds. Admittedly, the release mechanism isn't the best, but if you treat it with respect, it will work happily all day long. There is no need to bring a hammer to it as I have read in an earlier review!
In m y opinion these clamps are great value, but sadly I guess they will not be re-stocked due to their overall star rating - shame really . . .

Poor quality plastic
I have bought a number of these Forge Steel clamps of different sizes and have found them to be OK on the whole. When I purchased this one, however, I was disappointed to find that one of the plastic jaws actually broke during use. Very annoying. If you buy cheap then you buy twice.

Not worth buying!
Sorry to have to say that.
I've used a lot of clamps / cramps over the years and used a number of these one hand grab it quick types but the pair of these I got just do not grip!
If I could find the invoice they would go back rather than in the recycle bin.

I avoided the cheapest option and went for this mid range clamp as I don't have a great use for them. I soon ran into two fundamental problems. 1) As I tried to clamp a twisted piece of wood, the clamp wouldn't hold it's position so that more load could be applied. It just slid back before any reasonable clamping could be achieved. 2) More disappointingly, although it boasts 'forge steel', this does not refer to the feeble plastic lever that snapped off with moderate force. I wasn't being a gorilla. So I'm now heading back to Screwfix to upgrade to something that is hopefully fit for purpose.
