Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to replace Durgo Valve The old valve, which the plumber installed, failed after 10 years. I purchased this Durgo valve from Screwfix and it was so easy to fix. It took more time to actually get to the old valve than it did to actually change it. Great product & great price.

Does this valve need to be vented ( to the outside world ) or will it be okay to box it in?

Asked by: Geoff60371
The FloPlast air admittance valves can be boxed in however you will need to leave an access panel for maintenance purposes and also a small gap for air flow. A couple of drill holes into the boxing should be more than sufficient.

Please review your answer to previous question regarding Please clarify how far below highest overflow or water trap

Sepecification says: can be installed below flood level of connected appliances. Below means under highest wet entry point. You answer says: needs to be installed above highest wet entry point.
Asked by: Mike12345678
Being installed below the flood level of connected appliances will be the overflow level i.e, on a wash hand basin. The wet entry point will be the waste pipe taking the water away which is lower than the overflow level. The air admittance valves need to be installed a minimum of 200mm above the highest wet entry point into the soil stack. This may be below the overflow level of the connecting appliances.

Will this, or any other air admittance valve in your range push fit into a 82mm cast iron flue pipe? If not is there an alternative solution you could suggest? Many thanks.

Asked by: MickeyT
I am afraid that none of the FloPlast products would be suitable for connecting to a 82mm cast iron pipe.

I've just installed one of these. Fitted well however when I flush the toilet the flap doesn't lift or move but moves freely when pushed with fingers. Is this a faulty unit or is there not enough pressure build up with the flush to lift flap valve?

Fitted in loft, stack is above highest water level no back wash or blackage issues
Asked by: Johnnyq
The seals on the air admittance valve will only open if there is a build up on negative pressure within the system. If there is not enough negative pressure then the air admittance valve will not open.

can this be used to seal off an unused horizontal toilet waste pipe?

we had a separate toilet next to the bathroom and have taken the wall down to make the bathroom bigger. existing bathroom also had a toilet waste outlet so we no longer need the 'extra' one
Asked by: verab
The air admittance valve can be used however being installed horizontally it would never work and we could not guarantee that it would seal so may let smells out. It would also be an expensive way of blanking off the pipe as you could use an access cap or similar.
