how about some guidance on rivet length?
So seems rivets can be 10-25mm long....but it does not explain what depth each would work on. For example if the thickness of the metal to be riveted is 5mm, what length of rivet is needed?
You can usually use this method to find the working length.
The nail head protrudes by about half the diameter of the rivet and, as a minimum, you would want the head to be pulled just below the end of the rivet for a good fix. ie pulled in by the amount that was protruding - half the diameter.
Hence a 5mm diameter rivet would need to pull the nail head in by a minimum of 2.5mm so your working length for a 5mm rivet is 2.5mm less than the length of the rivet. A 4 mm diameter rivet's working length is 2mm less than its length etc
ie working length = rivet length - half the rivet diameter
