Awful Just Awful - Avoid TheseBought 5 together from Screwfix but found that they all have a fundamental problem - measure from the very centre of the pivot point to the edge that rotates to lock the sliding sash window shut & the distance varies meaning that the rotating round edge is not round enough so when you finally get them to line up on a sliding sash window they are VERY stiff to operate plus they have the wrong characteristic of pushing the top (outer) sash AWAY from the bottom inner sash - absolutely hopeless and creates a draught - extremely difficult to line up - so as an experiment swapped over two that I had just fitted - neither one would then lock the window shut when installed in the other locks place - then tried a third lock that wouldn't fit at all in either location so each one is significantly dimensionally different to another which corroborates the out of round locking rotating part - these are all design and manufacturing defects - window locks do not normally need so much careful alignment.
Have now replaced ALL the awful & frustratingly fiddly to fit Screwfix brass Fitch fasteners with brass Fitch fasteners (with built in locking function) bought from the ubiquitous online auction site & they were quick and easy to fit AND successfully pull the sashes TOGETHER in the middle & are easy to operate on the very same windows the Screwfix fitches caused such annoyance on - even an ultra cheapo cast zinc Fitch fastener (bought separately at a local hardware store) easily & quickly went on to another window elsewhere with no alignment problems whatsoever. Also the Screwfix supplied fixing screws are electroplated and not brass & half of them have a very shallow slotted recess for the screwdriver so are pretty useless overall - ALMOST ANY OTHER FICH FASTENER IS BETTER THAN THESE SCREWFIX ONES - Beware!

Function lost in translationAt first these seem to be excellent value - polished solid brass and well made but during fitting you realise somethings wrong. Unless it's my misunderstanding of how a fitch closer works these fitch fasteners do not progressively draw the frames together as the closer is turned but in fact do the reverse. It seems someone made these without understanding their function and got the cam profile - or maybe the pivot point -completely wrong. Cannot recommend and it is a shame that what could have been a excellent value product is next to useless.

Fitch FastnerI have just made a set of bifold doors. The problem was how to pull them shut and secure. I suddenly thought of the, old fashioned sash fastener and found one on your site. Does the job perfectly, lovely finish and an excellent price looks great. More power to your elbow. A small fitting but a unique applicatiion. Nigel.
What size is this please? Is there a technical spec with dimensions? Thank you. We need something for a very small window frame.
