Rated 2 out of 5 by from am i using them wrong? Bought these to hang some things (small storage units, fan etc) on plasterboard. Seemed easy enough to use, position plug, screw into wall, screw into plug. Plug goes into plasterboard just fine, once you screw screw into plug, the whole plug keeps rotating unto tight in board and then rips the board so plug is free to rotate and not biting onto board. To overcome this i had to screw the screw into the plug out of the wall so the plug would have groves already for the screw and this solved the problem. A lot of faff and takes twice as long to do job. Second problem was there was adhesive to stick the plasterboard to the wall, the plug just snaps when it hits the adhesive and tares the plasterboard acting like a drill bit. Seems to hold solid but given i had to pre screw the plug & make sure there is no adhesive behind plasterboard.

Hi. I am looking to hang a mirror (11kg) horizontally using two anchor points into plasterboard. Would these fixing be sufficient to hold this (given I have two anchor points) ?

Asked by: Evh32
Thanks for your enquiry, We would probably favour the Metal HM cavity anchor. Once set you can put the machine screw in and out as much as you like. The self drill plasterboard are good for very lightweight applications where the screw is done up tight once and does not stand proud. Not one we would use for mirrors. Regards Technical.

Are these corrosion resistant?

Will these rust if used in a shower room?
Asked by: LewS
Thanks for your enquiry, the metal fixing itself is made from a zinc alloy and will not rust, if there are any screws with it then these will be zinc plated and will rust over time if in a wet environment unless coated with paint/varnish to seal them. Regards Technical. Technical

Can I hang a mirror with this?

Looking to hang a mirror using two fixings. Mirror weighs 6kgs, will these take the weight on a plasterboard wall?
Asked by: Gunusu
You will need to change the plus for HDF or UX plugs with a longer screw

Can you get this fixing type for a 3mm screw?

Asked by: DrewDuxy
They come complete with the 4mm screw but a wood screw of 3mm of your choice could be used, if screwed deep enough into the fixing, depending on the load required.

What is the maximum weight these can support?

I want to install bookshelves along the entire length of my wall but everything is plasterboard. Can you advise how much weight each of these can support and recommended spacing between fixings
Asked by: JRCK
Thanks for your Enquiry, The PDMs you mention will hold about 6 -7 kg per fixing and are best in pure tension. I would think for a book shelf you would be much better off using an HM metal cavity anchor which will hold about 20-25kg and is much more suitable for shear loads that might result from shelving Min spacing 150mm for best results. Regards Technical.
