Fischer HM Plasterboard Anchor Setting Tool
to replace a cheaper version
I haven't used this yet but it appears to be a stronger construction than the Rawplug setter which only managed to be used about 20 times. This Fischer tool looks a better option. I have only given 4 stars as I haven't used the tool yet but it appears to be well made .

Fantastic, if pricy
Have been mounting hardware and curtain rails in a new build house with incredibly soft plaster and this tool has been a godsend. Have had issues in the past with cavity wall fixings just shredding the plaster when trying to screw them tight but no such problems with this. Excellent secure fixing point with no damage to the wall. Read other reviews on similar tools which questioned the build quality but no such concerns with this. Solidly built with strong, all metal moving parts that will last a life time.
A little on the pricey side unless you're in the trade and will use it continually but when you compare it to the cost and effort required of having to refill and repair damage, it's completely worth the outlay. Highly recommended.

Great for modern houses
Normal plasterboard fixings aren't suitable for most modern houses, leaving huge holes when they rip out even with a light curtain pole. Using this device with plasterboard anchors gives a strong reliable fix and the confidence it will stay up. I've given it a 3 star value as I bought mine on Saturday for £40 and it's dropped to £34 just after I bought. I'd put the real value of this around £20 but when you need it, you need it.

My new favourite tool...
In one sentence I would say - this is the tool I never knew I needed until I bought it.
I bought it to use working on a friend's property that has the flimsiest plasterboard I have ever had the misfortune to fix things to. Using in conjunction with hallow wall anchors, the numerous installations have been flawless.
Whilst the Fischer UX range (cheaper alternative solution) are excellent, I did find them a bit hit and miss with these thin walls - although they are by far the best universal plugs I have used and continue to use, despite their premium price.
The same goes for this tool - when working on plasterboard where you can't afford mistakes, it made sense to me to get a quality tool and avoid unwanted 'spin' during manual installation. The tool is reassuringly well-made and is exactly what you would expect from Fischer. It might look expensive for what it is, but it's worth it to have the confidence of a long lasting tool that is simple and reliable.
