I'm a handyman for a few public buildings and, after seeing staff standing on chairs to open windows, I suggested that this might not be the safest way to do it. I was then asked to make some 'proper' window poles, hence this purchase. After looking on the net I found Screwfix to be the cheapest around and available for next day collection. I had my doubts about the possible quality of the hooks, so only ordered one as a 'test, purchase'. I needn't have worried. The materials and design are either the same or better than some hooks costing 2 or 3 times more. Easy to fit, strong and the correct shape for both opening and closing the windows. Only possible gripe is that the enclosed screws may be a bit soft for going into hardwood, but mine was ok. Staff have given it the thumbs up so I'll be buying another 10 in the near future!

I recently replaced a fanlight catch and was then tasked to replace the pole and hook we used to open it. I have to point out that the pole and hook in use was actually a beech offcut about 1"/2 x 3"/4 in section with a cup hook screwed in at the end. This had been a "temporary" fix and after 20 years it was time to do the job properly.
Hunting around the local hardware and online stores I found that this fanlight hook from screwfix seemed good value. When it arrived I was delighted by the quality of this item, solid well finished quite a contrast to some of the brass goods you find. It also comes with the two screws for fixing it. Now fixed to a nice round hardwood pole time will tell if it lives up to my expectations of it, lasting for grandchildren to use at least.
