Rated 5 out of 5 by from Handy saw Saw made light work of cutting a dozen wooden sleepers to size

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High power and handy bag If you're in the market for a reciprocating saw then this Erbauer model won't disappoint. It's got a lot of power, adjustable speed through the trigger and in the box you get good blades (x3) and a handy carry case. Normally with tools it's like a 5000 piece jigsaw puzzle to get everything tidied away but the bag supplied with this jigsaw has plenty of space and feels durable so I've no doubt it'll last well. I've used this for cutting wood, metal and plastic and, using the correct blade, all have been easily handled by this machine. I bought while on a price promotion, but would buy at full price as it's highly competitive still. I'd recommend this product and would buy it again - with the supplied 2 year guarantee I feel extra safe.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice saw - but has major flaws Bought this yesterday to cut up bits of tree trunk after a different type of saw burnt out. Using the right wood blade the vibration was terrible - either single or two handed, in less than an hours use I have blisters on both hands just from holding it. Also the trigger has no interlock so when holding the handle it is too easy to accidentally start the blade. Having said that it did cut through the wood reasonably efficiently i will be returning it as not fit for purpose

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Potentially Dangerous The saw works well, seems well built and relatively good value. My big concern is that there is no safety button before engaging the trigger, a few times when I picked it up/ moved it, it fired in to action, fortunately no injuries. You need to be careful

Can this saw be held one handed and used to cut logs

Asked by: blackadder123
Hello blackadder123, The saw can be operated one handed, there is one on/off trigger in the handle. We would recommend using both hands though for better control, as the saw is quite long, heavy & powerful. The saw can be used to cut logs up to 300mm. Thanks for using Q&A

Sorry, an amateur when it comes to woodwork. Would this be good for home DIY furniture projects? And can it be used for precise work including cutting in straight lines? Or would I be better off using a jigsaw?

Asked by: Sparrowhawk
If you want to cut in a straight line then a jigsaw is a better bet. There is simply too much "play" with this type of saw to give you an accurate cut. The jigsaw has a larger surface area of contact with what you are cutting. You can also double-sided tape down a guide timber with a jigsaw if you are concerned about going off path. That won't work with a reciprocating saw. The disadvantage is you can't get everywhere with a jigsaw, plus you blade length is probably limited to around 30mm or so.

in the instruction manual, it refers to 'plunge cutting'. Has anyone tried this? If so was it successful? Can't see it myself.

Asked by: Vols
I wouldn't try it. I'd go for an oscillating saw for that. Plunge cutting with an oscillating saw is a real pleasure - it works.

This saw states it cuts wood up to 300mm. However the blade supplied is only 235mm so how is the longer cut possible ?

Asked by: BernieB
My guess is you can buy longer blades and it will cope with those up to 300mm.
