Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yes they do work I bought one of these about 15 years ago and it as been working ever since. I was sceptical at first and only bought it as an experiment but it does reduce scale. There is a thin covering of scale in the kettle but it doesn't build up. My last washing machine lasted 27 years and only failed due to the case rusting away. Please note it will not stop scale build up where water deposits evaporate (shower screens, tap spouts, draining boards, etc). It conditions the water so the scale doesn't settle out, it doesn't remove the scale.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brill item Fitted a week ago on the incoming cold water main as we have hard water.A glass of water used to taste awfull.also we had to empty the kettle every time for a brew as if you reheat same water it tastes bad. These two problems have now gone.As for the lime scale on taps and shower valves/screens etc only time will tell.If it increases the life of the heating elements on dishwasher/washing machine etc then even better.Been able to just have a decent brew and drink the tap water is enough for me to believe it is doing something.Happy days.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's doing something. If it's any help to those who might well ask.. "Is it doing anything?" (beyond the fancy row of red running lights that is..). Well it's doing something. Checking the output there is a semi-random multi-level rectangular type waveform fed to the coils. It changes about a little but has 16 levels and a pulse period of 20 uS with an approximate repeat every 400 uS. I couldn't measure amplitude since I was only measuring it with my phone. How this compares to other similar devices on the market I couldn't say. I will say that I have faith in the passive "electrolytic" through-flow devices which do work. I'm in a hard water area and have used an old Scalewatcher (Conceptually similar to this BWT device but now broken). I believe the Scalewatcher was helping with the shower it was feeding.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lime Inhibiter Very easy to install with simple instructions I don't know if it works as only fitted 1 week ago hence the low score for performance

Does this product remove existing limescale?

If there is existing limescale in the pipes and plate heat exchanger, will this product remove it?
Asked by: uncleadmin
The BWT Electronic Scale Inhibitor starts working to inhibit the build-up of limescale immediately after it is installed. Removal of existing scale build-up is a slow process and will depend on the level of deposits.

1. Is this safe to be covered with foam wrap? 2. Are the coil lead's safe to wrap around a pipe that can get pretty condensated? Would this effect it's performance ?

Asked by: DIYsupremist
It would be considered safe to cover the wires with foam wrap but we would not recommend to cover the control unit. Condensation on the pipework will not effect the performance of the unit.

lead water main

Can you explain why this cannot be installed on lead pipework. what will it do, or not do, on lead? thanks.
Asked by: Bladerunner
Lead pipework will dull the electromagnetic field produced by the scale inhibitor, thus affecting its overall performance.
