Rated 3 out of 5 by serve a purpose but.. These do the job but they all are bent now so not very strong. You need a 6mm spanner (my set goes to 7mm) to tighten and that threads in no time making getting them out really difficult. I'd avoid these in future for sure. 29 Mar 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Simple & easy to use Good solution to fixing wooden storage to wall but still be able to remove when wanting access to carry out maintenance. Simple to drill onto wall & fix battens using wing nuts. 2 Dec 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Got the job done I needed to join some PVC sheeting to wooden battens in a manner that would allow them to be removed easily again for cleaning. These dowels, combined with wingnuts worked perfectly. They were really easy to use, I found it easier to use two M8 nuts locked on the machine thread with a socket and rachet drive to screw them in rather than use a spanner on the hexagonal shaft section. This was partly because I didn't have a small enough spanner and also because the ratchet drive made it easier to screw them in. I am not sure how these are going to cope with being exposed to the elements, but as I could not find any in more durable material (E.g. Stainless Steel) I decided to go ahead and see how long they last. I guess as long as I replace them before they corrode too much it should be reasonably simple to do. All told - I'm happy with these and they got the job done. 24 Nov 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great product Does exactly what is says. You will need an appropriately sized open ended spanner to screw it in with though, so make sure you have one before starting the job. I used it with wing nuts to make it easy to remove ends on purpose made racking. Wish I'd found these years ago! 24 Nov 2015

Answer:
Drill a 4 or 5mm pilot hole the depth of the woodscrew part. Put 2 ordinary M8 nuts on the threaded part and lock them together with two spanners, just tighten them up against themselves, then put a spanner on the top nut and use it to turn the screw and it will screw into the pilot hole, when it is to depth unlock the nuts and remove.
Jobs a good 'un. Main use is for table legs but can be used for anything really.
