Rated 5 out of 5 by drayton rad valves After the need for replacing the valves on my new address, i saw the drayton valves online. Looking high spec i decided to bite the bullet and opt for the drayton. The quality was superb from the design look to the functionality 2 Apr 2016

upside down fitting

Hi

I have pipework coming down from the ceiling so it would be most compact to fit the lockshield or thermostatic valve upside down. Can I do this? Will it still work, and won't leak?

Thanks

Dan

Answer:
Fitting a valve upside down would have no detrimental effect on how the valve operates , however, in the unlikely event of the valve body leaking the water would enter the thermostatic head and prevent the head from working resulting in a loss of heating control.. Therefore we do NOT recommend that any valve is fitted upside down.

Answer:
The head of a Drayton TRV4 can be mounted horizontally or vertically and the 15mm angled valve can be fitted to either the flow or return of the radiator.

Answer:
The TRV4 is not a valve but a thermostatic head.
It differs from other Drayton heads as it is liquid filled and offers the ultimate in accuracy and responsiveness. The RT212 head in comparison is a lower cost wax filled sensor head.
Both of these heads fit onto the Drayton straight or angled valves.

Drayton TRV4

I am refurbishing my house, on the ground floor the radiator pipe work is all 10mm and on the first floor the pipe work is 15mm.

I plan to purchase the classic Drayton TRV4 from Screwfix to use on all my radiators. Do I have to purchase a separate kit with the reduction olives (mentioned in a previous question) or are the olives supplied as standard with the TRV. If a separate kit is required do Screwfiix sell it?

Answer:
Purchase the Drayton TRV white and chrome TRV 15mm Angled and lockshield valves. Part No 34362. Supplement this with a 15-10mm reducer Part Number 70435.
When using the reducer remember to remove the original 15mm olive supplied with the valve, You need to tighten until you hear the click of the parts separating and then tighten a little more as a normal compression.
