Much cheaper than hard-wiring a device into the fire alarm circuits. Easy to fit and it works a treat. The only drawback is having to remove the device to re-set the timers.

The Dorgard fire door retainer is a great alternative to the more robust magnetic hold back devices, which require hard-wiring to the alarming system. Installation is quick and easy, so no costly installation fees from electricians or alarm engineers, however it does require batteries, so occasional maintenance would be required much the same as a domestic smoke alarm. As the device operates from the sound of an alarm, they are prone to spurious releasing with certain other sounds such as vacuum cleaners. However this only proves that the device is doing what is expected of it.

I have bought a few of these units and I am dissapointed in the short life span of the batteries. I have tried all kinds of batteries but whether it's the office environment or not they just don't seem to last. The sensitivity isn't the best either, even adjusted to the max, they still go of when they shouldn't.
