This sander has been indispensable whilst renovating our oak staircase and has produced excellent results.
Despite it's good performance, the design of the sander isn't very ergonomic: more thought could have gone in to making it shaped so that it's easier to hold, including reducing the likelihood of hands covering the air vents.
I purchased both the vacuum adaptor and louvre attachment (sold separately) which work well, but given the high purchase price of the sander, I was disappointed that these attachments were not included in the price (I previously had a much cheaper sander that had all sorts of attachments included).
I don't know if I was just unfortunate, but I had a couple of faults with my sander, although Screwfix sorted these quickly and efficiently.

I needed a sander like this to take off some varnish from my skirting. I wanted them stripped right back from the ghastly mahogany. I chose this because A- it's a Dewalt and B it's features. It is bigger than I thought but I guess it needs to be for the motor. With the adjustable speed you can get a lot more control for when you need it but increase it if you want to crack on. It literally ate the varnish. Gone so easily with no effort. The adjustable head is great to suit its location or the way you work/hold things. It comes with one pack of different grade pads so buy others or you will soon be returning. Screwfix only sell 50 grit at 93mm which is annoying so I had to go online. If they sold packs of different grit it would get 5*.
Wear a dust mask, you will need it. A plastic box would awesome.

I bought this as I found that using a multitool for sanding is ineffective and burns the backing pad and abrasive sheet too easily.
The sanding action is totally different to a Multitool as you get a true 'orbital' motion with this tool rather than the side to side motion of the multitool.
Really powerful and very fast if you use the right grit grades for the job.
You do get more extras with the makita but I went for the 300w of power.
The dust extraction actually works reasonably well for an on board system.

A seriously good bit of kit this. I bought this to replace a broken Bosch 120watt delta sander. What a difference. It just poweres through whatever you press it on.....
Like I said, seriously good. It's perfectly true you get what you pay for.........
