First one returned as I thought it was broken. Replacement is just as bad. Despite 8.8v under load the bell refuses to give more than a rattle. Drilling an offset hole has helped to bring the dome in contact with the solenoid but it's still very poor. I obviously can't return this item now and I will use another manufacturer.

This should be about the simplest electrical device going, electromagnetic striker that hits a bell when the switch contacts are closed. But I've come to the conclusion from the other mixed reviews that it is let down by poor QC.
On mine, the striker mostly doesn't work, it usually only goes a short distance from rest and doesn't hit the bell which is a pretty fundamental failure for a bell striker, sometimes it does one full stroke and you get a single ding, very occasionally it will manage a few dings and then give up. I tested the transformer and bell push, all good so it's definitely the striker. Tried spraying it with a well known lubricant and it worked for a few goes and then gave up again. Oh and the screw contacts for the wiring are very poor quality.
Have concluded the supplier uses a cheap and nasty striker, when they work it's fine but some don't and then you're up the proverbial.
I've mangled it too much to return but won't be buying again, you can get an alternative brand from well known online retailers for about the same money.

Recently fitted this for an old chap who kept missing callers as he couldn't hear his chime doorbell.
He hears this one! And if he doesn't, callers can just keep their finger on the button until he does.
Basically the same design thats been around for decades - simple and effective.
It looks small and smart too.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Albion Great Bell - Buy It!
Bought this to replace the Byron bell i bought 42 years ago. Still working but the striker was getting stuck occasionally.
Virtually the same as the original - slightly smaller in diameter but better sound.
Only criticism is that the terminals to connect the power supply are very small and fiddly especially if you are installing it in an awkward location. Terminals on the old bell were about twice the size.
Expecting another 42 years from this new bell!
