Rated 4 out of 5 by from no read the need for and understand10 litre flow not available in my house your tablet says water is soft a API strip test shows 120ppm of CaCO. The lather in the water shows the water not to be as the 3 water softeners used in this house over the past 31 years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous little softener We opted for a smaller water softener due to lack of cupboard space in the kitchen so thought we'd give this one a try and were certainly not disappointed. The quality of the unit is very good, unlike some flimsy plastic ones of a similar price. Being a metered unit means that it's economical to run (It's been installed for around 5 months and we're still on the same bag of salt). We tested the softness of the water following installation (using the supplied kit) and the softness was spot on - despite the hardness of the water in our area. We also have a 3 toilets (WC, ensuite and main bathroom) and even though this is small it is more than adequate to supply water around the house, as well as the dishwasher and washing machines working simultaneously. We didn't install the softener ourselves, rather getting a local water softener company in (who usually supply the £0000 units) and he had no grumbles with any of the fittings etc.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Early days yet I installed the water softener myself, in an under-stairs cupboard where the incoming water main is located. Installation was straightforward apart from a couple of issues: firstly the 15mm kit contained the wrong valves - inline valves were supplied instead of T-valves and I had to go and purchase a couple of 15mm Tees. Secondly there is a mistake in the installation instructions, where item 9 reads "Check that the Brine Cabinet contains salt and water". I had to telephone the manufacturer's technical helpline and they advised that this is a misprint and in fact the brine cabinet should only contain salt at this stage. My final problem was that this model is designed to work with tablet salt, not block salt, however Screwfix only stock the latter and so that is what I ordered, not knowing at that stage that there is an important difference. The softener itself is not supplied with any salt and Screwfix should probably make this clear in their description, along with advice as to what type of salt is required. My three star ratings for performance and reliability should be ignored, as it is too early to judge these criteria at the moment. I will update this review after using the product for a month or so.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy D.I.Y. install. Website details were accurate. As stated, it is very compact and should fit many under-sink cupboards. It comes with a useful set of connectors and the hardness test kit needed to set it up. Installation was a straightforward D.I.Y. task. Being a metered unit, it should prove more economical than unmetered softeners. Flexible hoses supplied would enable it to be connected and then pushed right back in to its planned location, except that the overflow is conventional rigid overflow pipe. I strongly recommend reading the full online manual in advance of D.I.Y. installation as there are several points to consider:, including the fully loaded weight; the need to check the water pressure before installation; and the positions of the overflow and drain. The great majority of the construction is in plastic, so corrosion should be minimised. I can't comment long term reliability information as yet, and it is noticeable that the manufacturer only offers a 1-year warranty on this model

Does this effect flow rate on unvented cylinder

I have installed one for the customer but customer has complained that their pressure on the shower reduced
Asked by: Jadamed

Is the water softner quiet or can you hear running water? Thanks

Asked by: Charlie764
During normal operation, the water level inside the water softener cabinet will rise and fall as required by the regeneration process, however, this should not produce a noise level which is disruptive or inconvenient.

Should WC's be on softened water?

I will need extra plumbing throughout the house, so can choose either. Is there any advantage? Or should I go for economy?
Asked by: Lambfoot
For a standard installation we would recommend that the water softener be installed on the incoming mains to give you whole house protection, with at least one drinking water tap (and a garden water tap) that is not fed by the water softener. If you have a separate water supply to your toilets and do not need to protect the flush mechanism, cistern, or ceramics from scale then the installation is very much your preference.

Inside the brine cabinet of the BWT water softener there is a block of polystyrene. Is this packing material that should be removed? Or is this to be left within the cabinet?

Asked by: Clergy
Yes this is packing material and should be removed.

Can I use this compact softener with a combi boiler

Asked by: Davilyn
Yes, however we recommend that your water softener be 'hard plumbed' using copper tube or flexible high flow hoses.
