Which housing do you feed in first?

Would it be possible to feed the mains into the polyphosphate filter first and then into the carbon filter second to try and soften the salt taste at the taps?
Asked by: Ian2009
The BWT 2 Stage Whole House Scale Reduction System is supplied with a 5 micron sediment (not carbon) filter cartridge which acts as a pre-filter to be installed before the polyphosphate cartridge. *Please note, the filter cartridges do not contain salt*. We would recommend that a minimum of one tap is left as an untreated source (drinking water). This is usually the kitchen sink cold supply. Installation instructions are available on the product page for your reference.

Our plumber has installed this filter but has not separated the drinking water supply. Is the water safe to drink?

Asked by: Som1234
We would recommend that a minimum of one tap be left as a source of untreated water (drinking water). The BWT 2 Stage Whole House Scale Reduction system doses a small amount of polyphosphate into your water supply to inhibit the build up of scale. Although this is food grade polyphosphate and is perfectly safe for human consumption, we would recommend that it is NOT used for treating water for drinking or cooking purposes.

Are the different types of cartridges in the BWT range interchangable?

Re my previous question which was promptly answered suggested using a carbon and sediment filter system. Unfortunately the cartridge sizes are not stated. Can I use a sediment and carbon cartridge instead of the polyphosphate one in this filter?
Asked by: Steve1953
The 2 Stage Whole House Scale Reduction System is a kit which, in part, comprises of 2 x 10" filter housings, a 10" 5 micron sediment filter cartridge (product code 69860) and a 10" polyphosphate filter cartridge (product code 88345). Standard 10" filter cartridges are interchangeable with the filter housings should you require a different type of filtration. For example, should you require a carbon filter cartridge, the High Capacity Carbon Water Filter Cartridge (product code 11608) would be a suitable option.

Why can`t this be attatched to a drinking water supply?

We live in Kenya and our water comes from a well. There is a lot of sediment, odour and discolouration. I want to fit the filter to the incoming water supply which is gravity fed. I have a combined cartridge and UV filter for drinking water.
Asked by: Steve1953
The 2 Stage Whole House Scale Reduction System can be attached to a drinking water supply, however, we do not recommend this as it contains a polyphosphate dosing element for scale reduction, and this may not improve drinking water taste. You seemingly already have a suitable drinking water solution with UV disinfection and filtration but if you still have issues with sediment, odour and discolouration we would recommend that you also upgrade your current filtration with additional sediment and carbon filtration.

Can I use this to remove scale from my hot water system

Product code 72063 I am thinking of fitting this inline with the rising main suplying the cold cistern which in turn supplies the secondary cold water and the hot water tank. I read that this is effective on cold running water, but once it sits in a cistern and is also heated in a tamk, will the benefits be as effective.
Asked by: FredG
The 2-stage whole house system is ideal to use as you describe. Please ensure that a separate untreated line is kept within the household for drinking water purpose.
