There seems to be little choice in the market for drain testers which I guess is why this is so expensive for what it is and so poorly designed. The rubber pipe connects to the top of the gauge and in use pulls it over. I guess you could just hold it but standard air test means holding it for 5 minutes and frankly I'd rather be drinking tea. I strapped mine to a set of steps to keep it up right. A better design would be to have the hose connect at the bottom and some sort of clamp to hold the gauge steady.
As another review mentioned the non return valve leaks. My fix for this is a bulldog clip. Fold the rubber hose in half after the valve and clip on a bulldog clip to get a good seal. I found my test only just passed with just the valve but with the bulldog clip even after 20 minutes the pressure hadn't dropped at all (compared with 25mm in 5min).
So in summary, it can be made to work but for the money it should work well straight out of the box.

Not the most robust piece of equipment, and I can see why the other reviews have their complaints. Mine works fine, if a little awkward, especially trying to fill to the desired level of water without spilling. You need to buy the pipe bungs to make it work. It does the job but I don't think it will last for years.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by OGCC The kit FAILS the test!
I should have read the following reviews first but bought from the catalogue. I set the kit up on a bench with a 2m length of new soil pipe, pressurised to 100mm and watched the level fall!
If the tube from the rubber bulb was clamped, it held the pressure. Conclusion: The valve in the rubber bulb leaks which is not surprising at such low pressure and a clamp should be included to isolate the bulb at this price for a kit of rubber tubing. Returned it to Screwfix who apologised and refunded me with no problem. Good service from the Norwich South branch.

I bought this and set it all up, only to find that the pressure does not remain constant. I also set it up on a short length of pipe with the same result!
I wish I had read the previous review before I purchased it, i too wonder if Building Control would accept the test on this basis!
